iStreamPlanet Adds Live RTMP Streaming to its Portfolio
Live online video is sure to be a major trend of 2013, and video workflow company iStreamPlanet is riding that wave. The company announced that it's now offering global ingest and publishing capabilities for RTMP-based live video. Broadcasters will be able to acquire single bit-rate RTMP live video and then output multiple bit-rate RTMP streams to viewers on IP-connected devices. The service also lets broadcasters package those RTMP streams for Apple HTTP 在线直播 (HLS) to reach iOS mobile devices.
Broadcasters can use the new offering by uploading a live RTMP stream to a content delivery network (CDN) certified by iStreamPlanet. That content is then pulled by iStreamPlanet, which processes it and creates HLS or RTMP multi bit-rate streams. The streams are then delivered to a CDN for delivery to viewers. iStreamPlanet notes that certified CDNs can also deliver other RTMP streams, including Adobe HTTP Dynamic streams for Flash playback.
"IP-based RTMP acquisition helps to reduce the cost and complexity of live video streaming, and allows for content acquisition from practically anywhere in the world," says Lou Greco, executive vice president of global sales and service at iStreamPlanet. "In addition to traditional satellite and fiber acquisition, these new IP-based offerings provide a comprehensive infrastructure to enable broadcasters to deliver live-linear streaming channels in addition to their on-demand and live event content."
