Streaming Video Alliance Heads to Yahoo for Quarterly Meeting; Seven Working Groups to Convene

Alliance Welcomes Ciena and ViaSat as New Members

FREMONT, CA(18 Feb 2016)

The Streaming Video Alliance (SVA), an industry forum comprised of leading companies from the online video ecosystem, today convenes at Yahoo in Sunnyvale for its quarterly member meeting. Highlights from today's event include the announcement of five newly activated SVA Working Groups, a keynote address from Yahoo executives and the welcoming of new members, Ciena and ViaSat to the Alliance.

The meeting will feature keynotes from Ron Jacoby, vice president of engineering, Yahoo Video & TV Applications, and P.P.S. Narayan, vice president of engineering, Yahoo Video and a presentation from Colin McQuade, managing director of group TV and digital platforms at Sky. It will also include a general member session, a tour of Yahoo Studios and a networking reception.

"We are entering an era where streaming video is the new broadcasting norm, and as such, we are focused on collaborating with our partners to ensure we, collectively, advance the industry forward," said P.P.S. Narayan, vice president of engineering at Yahoo. "At Yahoo, we're deeply committed to bringing high definition video and new experiences to our users at scale. Last year's global NFL live stream on Yahoo, the upcoming global live stream of the Berkshire Hathaway annual shareholder meeting, as well as partnerships with the PGA TOUR and MLB, underscore our continued investment in video."

A large portion of the day's agenda will be dedicated to the Working Groups, where members will break out into seven sessions to move forward on a broad range of important streaming topics. The Working Groups are at the heart of the Alliance, where a focus on important streaming video issues enables a diverse group of experts to reach agreement on best practices, policy and proposed standards.

The cross-industry collaboration these Working Groups foster will help define the open architecture for streaming and promote the SVA's vision for the future of streaming, allowing online video to flourish.

Established Working Groups include:
  • Open Caching
  • Quality of Experience
  • Newly activated Working Groups include:
  • Accessibility
  • Ad Insertion and Audience Measurement

The SVA will continue to assess new topics and, as warranted, activate new working groups to further advance the agenda of the Alliance.
